The Journal of Pediatrics reports findings of a cross-cultural study about the onset of bipolar disorder indicating that about half the subjects in the United States experienced symptoms before the age of 19. Delays in the correct diagnosis, and a lag in treatment, could lead to an adverse course of illness for adults.
