    A site discussing revisions to the DSM-V including working group reports with white papers, time-lines, and opportunities to submit comments about the DSM IV.
  • EUFAMI
    The family network of consumers, relatives and professionals concerned with mental illness in the European Union.
  • FDA Consumer Health Information
    A portal to information about FDA announcments, with links to information about procedures, medication, devices, products and other government agencies dealing with health matters.
  • Guide to Antidepressants
    The agency for Health Research and Quality (AHRG) has issued a guide to antidepressants that summarizes information about benefits, side effects, and serious risks. Written in language we can all understand.
  • Medicaid and Medicare
    A Kaiser Family Foundation site with information about Medicaid and Medicare, disability insurance, and prescription drugs.
  • Men Get Depression
    A (new – Nov. 2007) site with listings of local community events, movies, outreach, education, and resources about men and depression.
  • Medication Guide
    An easy to understand, on-line guide to medication from Mental Health America (see below), originally the National Mental Health Association.
  • Mental Health America
    In 2006, the National Mental Health Association changed its name to Mental Health America. It is the nation's oldest and largest advocacy organization dedicated to all aspects of mental health and mental illness. It partners with 320 state and local affiliates nationwide, to improve policies, understanding, and services for individuals with mental illness and substance use disorders, and is dedicated to bringing wellness home.
  • Mental Health Screening
    Screening locations for depression by state and city. They also provide program assistance to community based organizations and schools.
  • Mentalhelp
    A commercial site providing basic information about numerous disorders, a glossary of symptoms, book reviews, and links to other sites, such as SAMHSA. Pharmaceuticals are usually identified by "sponsored link" or "advertisement."
  • National Mental Health Information Service
    Within the Department of Health and Human Services is SAMHSA, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. This is the portal for their Center for Mental Health Services which is a good starting place for topics in the news.
  • National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)
    Founded by parents and siblings of people with mental illness. Local chapters coalesced in 1979 to for the first family-based and nationwide advocacy group. This site contains links to resources, publications, policy updates and for the 50 state affiliates.
  • National Consumer Supporter Technical Assistance Center
    This project of Mental Health America (formerly the National Mental Health Association) supplies links to services and information by address and zip code.
  • National Mental Health Consumers' Self-Help Clearinghouse
    Located in Philadelphia, the National Mental Health Clearinghouse is the nation's first consumer advocacy organization promoting peer-driven services. The hub for consumer networking, they have a directory of consumer driven services.
  • Nineline: Information for Kids
    A Covenant House 24/7 hot line for kids with the name that's the number: 1.800.999-9999. Confidential, free crisis counseling and resources by zip code.

  • Psychological First Aid from the National Center for PTSD

    A manual about how to respond to a disaster with guidance for various situations ranging from respite centers for first responders to hot lines, to parents of lost or missing children.
  • Substance Abuse Treatment Facility Locator
    This is a state-by-state map with links to facilities. Enter your address and a list of programs, agencies and providers is generated. A project of the National Center of Substance Abuse and Mental Health.
  • Trauma Center
    A Massachusetts based organization affiliated with the Justice Resource Institute, there articles about trauma are available for download free of charge.
