The Mayo Clinic recommended an overhaul of health care, based on panels of 400 consultants who have been meeting for the last 18 months under the sponsorship of this world-famous hospital. Recommendations address coordinating patient care, restructuring health costs and payments, placing the patient at the heart of the system, and provisions for universal coverage. Friday's report did not address any illness explicitly although when briefing the media, one spokesman acknowledged the importance of including people with complex medical situations and disabilities who are vulnerable to fragmented care.
