Using off-label antipsychotic medication, known for their sedating qualities, to inappropriately quiet elderly patients is coming under fire by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services according to an article in The Wall Street Journal. Roughly one in five of the elderly patients who are being given these medications have no known psychotic condition.

In an unrelated story, 54 nursing homes were cited for poor performance by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
