Proposals to revamp Georgia’s state run psychiatric hospitals include hiring board certified psychiatrists and a pay hike for workers responsible for most contact with patients. The Atlantic Journal-Constitution reports that they earn less than fast-food workers. As a result of the newspaper's earlier reporting of 136 suspicious deaths since 2002, the US Justice Department is currently investigating the state's seven hospitals.
