Committee passes bill to delay Medicaid cuts

A House committee voted unanimously to delay changes to Medicaid that the Bush administration sought to impose. With broad support on the bill (H.R. 5613) introduced by Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich), ranking member Rep. Joe Barton (R-Tx) thought the House and Senate likely to sustain a presidential veto. Community mental health services are among those that will be delayed one year. The cost for all the Medicaid measures is estimated at $1.65 billion.
