Increased funding for Nicola Law; decreased in-patient beds in New Orleans...hmmmn...is this a disconnect? Much is made of that horrible 'paranoid schizophrenic' who committed the 'atrocious' or horrible 'crime'. What is not being said, what has never been said is that after 'Cane Katrina, there were no in-patient beds available, no medications, no 'psychiatric treatment', so many patients did not receive treatment or assistance needed to cope with the trauma of the hurricane. Now three years later, when the Gov. wants to crunch numbers and alleviate the financial problems, many in-patient beds are being cut in New Orleans. Now due to the knee jerk reaction we have the Nicola Law, equivalent to Kendra's Law.

I get tried of preaching the same old, same old. I sometimes wonder why I have spent almost 25 years of my life, dedicated to mental health advocacy and see such negative results that many years since the inception of my advocacy.
