Sec. Kathleen Sebelius announced Health and Human Services will grant $47.6 million to train more doctors. The shortage of medical personnel threatens plans to increase health delivery systems. In states like Mass., where insurance is mandatory, shortages of doctors means some still go without services. This is particularly acute for people with a mental illness because primary care physicians report difficulty locating psychiatrists for both adults and children. The money is carved out of $200 million and includes expansion of equipment, public health prevention measures, dental services, expanding diversity in the workforce, and eliminating barriers to telemedicine.
