More Swedes with schizophrenia live independently than New Yorkers with nearly identical characteristics. The disparity in independent living raises questions, say the authors of a study appearing in the American Journal of Psychiatry (subscription required). This leads them to conclude that "cultural and social support systems can lead to divergent real-world outcomes among individuals who show evidence of the same levels of ability and potential."
