"Mental health is undervalued," said Pres. Barack Obama in a town meeting in New Hampshire. His remarks came in response to a question from an English teacher at Portsmouth High School which hosted the event. Severe depression is not covered as would be a broken leg, said the president who reiterated his commitment to including mental health in the broad reform effort. He also challenged the myth that insurance companies do not ration.
Coverage was live on MSNBC and streamed on the White House web site. Obama is fighting back to campaigns promoting fear and falsehoods about proposed reforms during a week in which senators and congressional leaders were shouted down at public meetings. The White House earlier released a filmed video.

I agree insurances are not covering mental health equivocally, but I think if they want change Medicare would be a good place to start. Personally I tried to get into county funded mental health clinic & I would have to pay 1/2 the cost and because I was on Medicare & not Medicaid I could not get a sliding scale fee.
