Kennedy was open about his own addictive and mental health disorders, and tenacious in the fight to end discrimination, expand services and clinicians, and combat the stigma surrounding mental illnesses. Along with former congressman. Jim Ramstad, he held hearings around the country to learn about and broadcast the challenges facing people needing treatment for a psychiatric or substance use disorder. The success of the mental health parity act is one of his notable accomplishments.


Kennedy says below that he will continue to wage fights on behalf of people suffering with a mental illness as his life takes a new direction.
