And, as a bit of irony, he died after having suffered from Alzheimer's disease. But, since he had millions of dollars, he could afford to be treated, so he, personally didn't reap the rewards of his efforts.
It's tempting to attribute his quotes of "I do not recall..." in the Iran-Contra hearings to Alzheimer's. I don't personally believe it.
