With the deadline for completing federal parity rules barely two weeks away, Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) writes that "critical care may be hindered or delayed" if the law is enacted without them. The Paul Wellstone-Pete Domenici Mental Heatlh Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 -- shorthand "parity" -- 12 years in the making, is scheduled to go into effect in January 2010. New York's Timothy's Law for kids
New York's governor David Paterson announced support for making access to mental health treatment permanent for kids by extending Timothy's Law. The law is named after Timothy O'Clair, a 12 year-old who committed suicide and whose family ran into insurance barriers for mental health treatment.
